An approach to Freud's causal thinking concerning the origins of hysteria is presented. It is used John Stuart Mill's canons from his "Sistem of Logic". Even without empirical evidence, Freud' s thinking can be regarded through Mill's logic to devise causal hypotheses in epidemiologic research.
