This paper aims at conceptualizing the extermination of humans as a political phenomenon, focusing on the issue within the field of public health. The article begins by distinguishing between the concepts of extermination and homicide. The dynamics of this practice are then characterized as a political, social, ethical and moral process, transcending the final act of executing the victims. Extermination is specified within the Brazilian reality, that is, through its relationship to the social context in which it is generated.
