The concept of equity in general and equity in the field of health in particular, both in health outcomes and in health resources and services was examined. An autochtonous definition of equity was presented together with some basic ideas on measurement in health. The paper concluded with the answers to three questions: equity for what and in relation to what? Is there total equity? Is monitoring of health equity in Cuba necessary?
