EDITORIAL
The Editorial Board
Over the last two years, Cadernos de Saúde Pública/Reports in Public Health has undergone profound changes in its editorial line and publishing format. Layout changes in articles were meant to attend to both foreign readers and Brazilian authors, who demanded more agility in publicizing their scientific production beyond Latin American borders.
The use of an international index has proven a decisive step for reaching a broader scientific community and has already resulted in a growing number of papers submitted from abroad, in addition to requests for subscriptions and exchange of articles.
Our Editorial Board is made up predominantly of consultants from other institutions (only some 1% are ENSP staff members). A number of the Board members are reknowned foreign specialists from various public health fields. In addition, Cadernos has some 30 ad hoc consultants who collaborate decisively by evaluating articles. They are listed in the special credits section in the fourth issue of each volume.
The Editorial Board was opened up to new members, another major step which has occurred over the last two years and which is being consolidated in this volume. In addition to researchers from the Escola Nacional de Saúde Pública, the new board of Associate Editors also includes researchers from other Brazilian institutions: Amélia Cohn (Universidade de São Paulo), Maria Fernanda F. de Lima e Costa (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais), and Maurício Lima Barreto (Universidade Federal da Bahia).
The organization of the journal's editorial content has also been reorganized. The sections on "Analysis" and "Research" were merged and are now classified as "Articles". This is because we feel that the previous format missed the journal's main objective, that of disseminating scientific production in the public health field, including its diversity of theoretical references and methodological approaches.
Inspite of changes in the journal's visual layout beginning with volume 8, we decided to keep up the tradition of having a new color for the cover of each year of Cadernos, allowing for quick visual identification of each volume by readers.
With the renewal of the Editorial Board and the changes in the journal, we hope to have made Cadernos de Saúde Pública a more agile and effective vehicle for promoting scientific debate in the field of public health and for disseminating scientific production in this area. For this to occur, it is essential to have the collaboration of our consultants and the trust of authours in choosing Cadernos to publish their work.
