A oportunidade dos autores realizarem curso de doutoramento na Inglaterra permitiu um melhor conhecimento sobre o ensino e a pesquisa em saúde coletiva naquele país. Neste artigo são apresentados alguns destes aspectos, bem como sugestões que podem ser úteis no repensar o desenvolvimento desta área do conhecimento no Brasil.Resumo em Inglês:
The authors' opportunity to perform their Phd courses in England allowed a better understanding about Teaching and Research in Public Health in that country. Utilizando dados sobre as endemias rurais ou seus vetores e os mapas geológico, geomorfológico e de vegetação, foi possível separar áreas onde essas endemias podem ou não ocorrer. A malária não ocorre num tipo de chapada e noutro de várzea. Só estará livre de leishmaniose muco-cutânea a floresta da placínie aluvial. Já a cutânea difusa é restrita a algumas matas de várzea. Os caramujos hospedeiros intermediários da esquitossomose poderão aparecer, depois do desmatamento, em todas as áreas não sujeitas a inundação. A febre amarela tem ocorrido em todas as florestas e até nas matas ciliares das zonas campestres.Resumo em Inglês:
Using data from endemic diseases from rural areas and their vectors and geologic, geomorphological and vegetation maps it was possible to plot areas where these diseases are possible to occur. Malaria is not found in one type of plateau and in another type of floodplain. Only the floodplains are free of muco-cutaneous leishmaniasis and the diffuse cutaneous form is restricted to some floodplains forest. Snail intermediate host of schistosomiasis can appear, after deforestation, in all areas presently not periodically flooded. Yellow fever has been found in all forest types, including the gallery forest of grasland zones.Resumo em Português:
Utilizando um mapa de domínios morfoclimáticos e um de vegetação, foram estudadas as áreas de dispersão da espécie e obtidas as seguintes conclusões: 1 - Lutzomyia intermedia é um flebótomo que ocorre nas florestas que apresentam o seu máximo de desenvolvimento nas encostas úmidas, mas, que ocupam também áreas de relevo pouco movimentadas ou planas. 2 - No Brasil, essas encostas pertencem às serras do Mar e da Mantiqueira e, no noroeste da Argentina, situam-se na Cordilheira dos Andes. 3 - E provável que a espécie exista nas serras florestadas do interior do nordeste brasileiro.Resumo em Inglês:
Using vegetation and morphoclimactic domain maps the areas of dispersion of Lutzomyia intermedia were studied and the following conclusions were obtained: 1 - L. intermedia is a sandfly of the forests which have their maximum growth at the humid slopes although these forests can also be found in plains and areas with low hills. 2 - In Brazil these slopes are found at the Serras do Mar and Mantiqueira and in Argentina ath the Andes Mountains in the northwest of the country. 3 - This species probably occurs also in the forested mountainous areas of the northeastern region of Brazil.
